Luxor was my favourite stop on my Egypt itinerary.

But with hotels spread across both sides of the Nile, choosing where to stay in Luxor can feel confusing for first-time visitors.

I thought any hotel with ‘Nile view’ in the title would be bucket-list worthy…

But what I quickly learned is that in Luxor, it’s not just about the hotel, it’s about which side of the river you stay on

Tombs, temples, and of course, the Pyramids of Giza!

There are so many highlights in Egypt, it is hard to know where to start.

That is where I come into it.

Having enjoyed many of the highlights which follow the Nile down to Aswan on my recent Egypt trip, I have included the best budget Egypt tours that I personally enjoyed.

Stepping off the boat from the Nile into Gharb Soheil was a culture shock. There was so much colour… and so many smiling faces…

My first experience of a Nubian village was going to be a fun one.

I headed to the quirky village during my Egypt adventure, and was surprised by the joy that the locals brought to us visitors.

Pulling into the Giza Plateau was a surreal moment…

I was finally seeing the pyramids first hand, after decades of learning about them…

They really are special!

I will never forget the wall of heat which hit me as I stepped from the boat on the Nile onto the shore of the Nubian Village.

45 Degrees Celsius!

At that moment I thought that I had picked the worst time to visit Egypt!

Egypt was a travel experience like no other!

Egypt is not an easy country to navigate with a bad reputation for food hygiene, hassle culture, and road safety.

However, it is all worth it when you are standing next to some of the greatest global wonders.

Despite visiting first thing in the morning, the museum was boiling, and very loud!

However, getting up close to some of ancient Egypt’s finest treasures made it all worthwhile.

And seeing the famous death mask which Tutankhamun was discovered wearing was incredible!

It doesn’t quite have the majestic feeling that the Great Hypostyle Hall does in Karnak… However, the giant statues guarding the entrance are pretty epic!

Let’s explore Luxor Temple.

By this point in your Egypt trip, you will have already explored some of its ancient treasures, especially if you started your trip in Cairo, as I did.

However, Luxor Temple is special!

As I walked up the famous stairway towards the iconic Temple of Hatshepsut… I could not believe the size of the cliffs that it is built into… What a place.

There is no doubt that Luxor is the best city in Egypt for temples, and I may have just found my favourite!

A lot of people worry if it’s safe, if it’s going to be chaotic, or if the pyramids are really as impressive as everyone says.

Well, after spending weeks exploring Egypt—getting lost in Cairo’s buzzing streets, wandering through ancient temples in Luxor, and soaking up the Nile views—I can confidently say it’s 100% worth it.

As we walked through the entrance at the first pylon, the scale of the temple complex became apparent… Then the Great Hypostyle Hall appeared…. The intricately carved 70 foot columns are definitely my favourite highlight!

You can’t visit Luxor without walking along the Avenue of Sphinxes towards the greatest temple of them all.

As soon as you see Karnak’s entrance, you will go on an imaginative journey back into a pharaoh's world in ancient Egypt.

Just as I thought our West Bank tour was over.. we pulled into a car park which unveiled a giant temple.

Medinet Habu Temple quickly became my favourite West Bank treasure.

It doesn’t have the famous reputation of the Giza Pyramids, or Karnak Temple in Egypt. However, it is just as impressive, with vibrantly coloured hieroglyphics, and deep carvings depicting ancient battles covering the various highlights which make up the Temple Complex.

Yet another local.. No, I don’t want you to take my picture..

I thought I’d seen Egypt’s greatest wonders at Giza… Until I stood in silence before the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the world’s oldest.

No crowds…. No chaos... Just myself, and 4,700 years of history.

Saqqara feels completely different to the Pyramids of Giza. Much calmer, older, and somehow more mysterious.
