After a chaotic experience in Hanoi, I couldn’t wait to explore Central Vietnam…
But I wasn’t sure whether March was a good time to visit, however, I didn’t let it stop me!
With my backpack repacked and expectations reset, I headed to the coast with one question in mind:
Is spring the best time to visit Da Nang? Let’s find out!

A visit to Da Nang in March.
If you're someone who enjoys pleasant weather without intense heat or tourist crowds, March is an excellent time to visit Da Nang.
It's part of the shoulder season, meaning the city is active but not overrun with tourists.
During my one week stay in Da Nang, I only experienced rainfall once, and that was very brief, and in the high altitude of Ba Na Hills.
The climate of Vietnam's central coast in March is warm, relatively dry, and far more comfortable than the sweltering heat of the summer months.
Daytime temperatures typically range from 24°C to 29°C (75°F to 84°F), making it ideal for exploring Da Nang’s beaches, temples, and day trips without overheating.

March is perfect for budget-conscious travellers, with flights and accommodation being cheaper in general, compared to peak summer months.

If you're unsure about the best time to visit, I'd confidently say March is one of the most balanced and rewarding months to experience Da Nang.

A good time to enjoy some beach activities.
The beaches are a big draw to Da Nang, and contribute towards the coastal city becoming one of the most popular destinations in South East Asia in recent years.
With the dry season running from January to August, a visit in March means you’ll benefit from sunny days, mild temperatures, and low humidity, perfect conditions for beach lovers.

The spring months offer ideal conditions for swimming and relaxing by the sea. When I visited in March, the water was calm, clean, and surprisingly warm.
It’s also one of the best times to enjoy clear skies and long daylight hours without the discomfort of extreme heat.

March offers ideal conditions for water activities like stand-up paddleboarding, beginner-friendly surfing, and jet skiing.
At My Khe and Non Nuoc beaches, you'll find plenty of rental shops and instructors ready to get you started.

My early alarm was worth it when I walked down to the beach and saw a clear, peaceful sky with hardly anyone around, perfect conditions for photos and a quiet start to the day.

Yoga, meditation, running, cycling.. You name it, the beach and promenade are the go to spots for locals and tourists. With wide open space, clean air, and sunrise views, it’s the perfect setting for a relaxed morning routine.
I also noticed many visitors to the beach enjoying a picnic on the sand, using the stunning palm trees as shelter from the sun's rays.

I saw some monkeys when I visited.
One of the most entertaining afternoons on my Vietnam itinerary was in Da Nang when the local monkeys were interacting with us tourists.
On my visit to the Lady Buddha site on Son Tra Peninsula, there was a group of friendly local monkeys roaming around the pagoda grounds.
Similar to the famous monkey forests in Bali, they seemed completely at ease around people, and not aggressive at all, just curious and relaxed.
Spring is a great time to spot monkeys in Da Nang, with less rainfall, fewer tourists, and milder temperatures that keep them active throughout the day.
It was such a fun and unexpected part of the visit, a bit of wildlife right alongside one of the city’s most peaceful cultural landmarks.
Just be sure to keep a respectful distance, avoid feeding them, and enjoy the show!

A hike up Son Tra Mountain.
It’s only when I reached the viewpoint halfway up Son Tra Mountain, that I realised just how vast the Da Nang coastline is!
It’s immense… Especially in spring, when the sunshine lights up the stretch of skyscraper hotels and sandy beaches below.
As you climb, you’ll come across hidden viewpoints and secluded coves, perfect for breaks or photo stops.
With fewer crowds in spring, it often feels like you have the entire mountain to yourself… I only saw one other hiker during my time there
Also known as Monkey Mountain, the popular hiking route is home to rare red-shanked douc langurs (if you're lucky), along with other species of playful monkeys.
I didn’t spot the elusive douc langurs, but the other cheeky locals definitely kept me entertained.
Spring mornings are ideal for comfortable hiking and your best chance of spotting wildlife in this peaceful natural escape.

It’s called Monkey Mountain for a reason.
The food is special all year round.
Da Nang’s food scene is growing fast, and while local Vietnamese cuisine is the main draw, you’ll also find a solid mix of popular international cuisines.
The city is famous for regional dishes like Mi Quang, Bun Cha Ca (fishcake noodle soup), and fresh seafood BBQs along the beach. You get very generous portions in the restaurants, and on the street food stalls.
I personally did find the food culture to feel more westernised in Da Nang than my time in Ho Chi Minh City, with more brunch cafés, international menus, and stylish spots catering to digital nomads and expats.
One thing I will say, whether you're a foodie or just hungry after a day of exploring, Da Nang delivers big flavours at very fair prices… No matter the season!

Lower humidity and dry weather opens up fun activities.
With clear skies and cooler temperatures, spring in Da Nang is the perfect time for me to explore the city’s top outdoor attractions.
More manageable heat made hiking around Marble Mountain and spending hours at Ba Na Hills far more enjoyable, even when a quick rain shower rolled in later.
Fewer crowds and ideal photo conditions also made stops at the Lady Buddha and Son Tra Peninsula even more memorable.
It’s a great season for getting out and seeing what makes Da Nang so special.

Marble Mountain.
Caves and pagodas add unique character to the site, but the real highlight of Marble Mountain is the stunning panoramic view over the coastline.
The hike to the top is fairly steep but short, and far more manageable in March’s mild weather. I didn’t feel rushed or overheated, even around midday, which made it easy to take my time and enjoy the climb.
There’s a distinct spiritual energy here.
As I wandered through active temples, hidden grottoes, and Buddhist shrines, it felt like more than just a tourist stop, it felt meaningful.
Marble Mountain is only 15 minutes outside of Da Nang, located right along the main road to Hoi An. While many day trips include it, I opted to ride there solo on a scooter… Which I’d highly recommend.
And don’t worry about missing the entrance, a friendly local on a motorbike pulled up beside me and casually guided me straight to the parking area.
Only in Vietnam!

The Lady Buddha Statue.
Next up we have one of the most iconic landmarks in Da Nang, the Lady Buddha statue, which is located on the Son Tra Peninsula, which makes for an absolutely fabulous scooter ride in the month of March.
The unique Buddha statue stands at 67 metres high, making it Vietnam’s tallest Buddha statue.
After a month exploring Thailand, it was a breath of fresh air seeing such a unique Buddhist structure!
Spring time is particularly peaceful in the gardens around Lady Buddha, with the fairly new Linh Ứng Pagoda, which was only built in 2010.
The grounds are beautifully maintained and surrounded by bonsai gardens and monkey-filled hills.
The whole site is free to visit and wander around also, making it an awesome outdoor activity, for nice weather, exercise, and some rich culture.

One thing which took me by surprise in Da Nang was how active the locals are!
Calisthenics, group fitness classes, beach volleyball, and running clubs are just some of the activities which the Vietnamese enjoyed daily.
Every time I walked past a pull up bar, there were alway groups of locals training together, of all ages!
It gave the whole beachfront a really vibrant, community feel, and encouraged me to stay active during my time in the awesome city.

Ba Na Hills.
Although the spring months bring pleasant and predictable weather to Da Nang, you still have to time your visit well at Ba Na Hills.
Due to the high altitude of the quirky theme park, the weather can turn in an instant.
If you catch it right though, a March visit is perfect, with the mild temperatures making it much more comfortable to wander around the hilltop French Village.
On my visit, I was lucky to have clear skies as I rode the world’s longest cable car up to the gardens.
The weather did turn later, but only after I’d spent time enjoying the flower gardens, the Golden Bridge, and a peaceful coffee in the village square.
Luckily, I’d seen most of the highlights before the clouds rolled in, a reminder to aim for an early start when visiting Ba Na Hills.
Oh, and bring a poncho, it may just save your day!

Even if you don’t sing, it’s a fun and culturally authentic way to spend an evening.
Cafe culture is massive in Da Nang.
The nightlife was great in March.
It might not have the Instagram appeal of Train Street in Hanoi, or the high energy of backpacker street of Saigon, but Da Nang’s nightlife still holds its own…. Even in March!
There is a more laid-back, coastal energy here…
With a mix of rooftop bars, beachside lounges, and craft beer spots, The cooler evenings in spring made it the perfect time to enjoy a drink outdoors without sweating through your shirt.
While it’s not wild, there’s a good crowd around the An Thuong area, and bars near My Khe Beach often have live music or DJs, especially on weekends.
Walking down the main promenade in the evening instantly put me in the mood for a mojito.

June is generally the hottest month in Da Nang, with average daytime temperatures reaching 34°C (93°F). The months of May through August are also quite hot and humid.
When is the cheapest time to visit Da Nang?
September to early December is usually the most affordable time to visit.

Hoi An is just along the coast also.
Da Nang is an awesome destination, however, if you want a more authentic Vietnamese destination, then Hoi An is only 30 kilometres down the road.
It’s a very doable day trip or a short transfer if you're staying in one city and want to explore the other… I headed over on my rented scooter, and had an amazing day.
It was probably my favourite day on my recent Vietnam trip.
Hoi An’s ancient town is full of charm, with lantern-lit streets, traditional architecture, and riverside cafés that feel worlds away from the modern vibe of Da Nang.
I enjoyed the slower pace, rich cultural experiences, and a very fun basket boat tour around a coconut forest.
