The 15 best Instagram spots in Thailand you can’t miss.
Here I am sitting on the beach at Maya Bay… It really is like in the movies…
By far my favourite Instagram spot in Thailand!
Thailand is one of those countries that feels like it was made for the camera.
From glittering temples in Chiang Rai to turquoise islands in Krabi, it’s packed with vibrant colour, dramatic landscapes, and unique cultural moments.
But here’s the challenge: with so many places competing for attention, how do you find the most Instagrammable spots in Thailand?
On my own travels through the Land of Smiles, I explored everything from buzzing Bangkok streets to hidden viewpoints in Pai, and I quickly learned that not all photo spots are created equal.
Some are definitely overhyped, while others I just can’t put into words… Or even pictures!
In this guide, I’ll share the 15 best Instagram spots in Thailand, with tips on what to expect, the best time to go, and exactly how to capture them.
A dreamy Thailand setting.
Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai.
Temples are a big draw to Thailand for international visitors…
And one of the most surreal and photogenic temples in the country is Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple.
Located in Chiang Rai, in the north of Thailand, the beautiful structure looks like something out of a fantasy film
The entire temple is pure white, with shimmering mirrored mosaics that sparkle in the sunlight, and it’s easily one of the most unique Instagrammable Thailand destinations.
The stunning white colour makes it completely different to some of the other picturesque temples I have visited in Thailand.
An immaculate setting.
I found the sculptures and tiny details to be incredible… You can literally get lost just staring at the patterns and artwork.
The temples in Chiang Rai are on a different level when it comes to being photogenic.
If you’re lucky with the weather, the bright blue sky against the white temple is a perfect backdrop…
I’d recommend arriving early to avoid the tour groups and to really soak in the atmosphere.
Just like the pagodas and colourful lanterns of Hoi An, these temples prove Southeast Asia is full of unique Instagram backdrops.
Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai.
Best time to visit: Morning, before the crowds.
Cost: Around 50 THB (£1.10).
Best spot for Instagram shot: From the bridge entrance, capturing the temple reflected in the pond.
My favourite temple in Thailand.
Phuket Old Town.
Away from the beaches, Phuket Old Town completely surprised me.
The area is bursting with colour and character, and it feels totally different from anywhere else I visited in Thailand.
Instead of temples or tropical scenery, here you’ll find pastel Sino-Portuguese shop houses, quirky cafés, and a thriving street art scene that’s constantly changing.
I loved wandering around the area and finding hidden corners, filled with very interesting art, and props.
Then in the very next street, there were flower covered buildings and very bright architecture capturing my attention.
An ideal spot for a photo, or two, or three!
Phuket Old Town is filled with interesting murals.
The mix of old architecture with bold graffiti makes it one of the most photogenic spots in Phuket—and a refreshing contrast from the island’s famous coastlines.
For Instagram, it’s all about the details: the colourful shutters, the tiled walkways, and the unexpected art pieces tucked down side streets.
Morning light is perfect here, and the streets are much quieter if you want cleaner shots.
Phuket Old Town.
Best time to visit: Morning for soft light and quiet streets.
Cost: Free to explore.
Best spot for Instagram shot: Along Thalang Road, with pastel shop houses and vibrant murals as your backdrop.
Another creative corner,
Pai Canyon.
My time in Pai was special, and the region’s beautiful nature is a big reason why!
One of the most surprising natural highlights was Pai Canyon…
A place full of adventure, relaxation, and an epic sunset!
Just outside the little mountain town of Pai, this spot offers some of the most dramatic views in northern Thailand.
The canyon trails are narrow and dusty, winding along red sandstone ridges with steep drop-offs on either side—not for the faint-hearted, but definitely unforgettable.
An awesome sunset spot.
The best time to come is at sunset, when the whole valley glows golden and you can capture sweeping shots of the cliffs, forests, and distant mountains.
There are of course crowds at golden hour, but the canyon is vast, so I didn’t struggle for some peace and quiet as the sun finally set.
Photos never quite do the scale justice, but it’s amazing for both landscape shots and lifestyle portraits.
While in Pai, I also recommend checking out the Bamboo Bridge, another beautiful and unique spot for photos, especially in the early morning mist.
Together, they make Pai one of the most Instagrammable corners of Thailand.
Pai Canyon.
Best time to visit: Sunset, for golden light and dramatic views.
Cost: Free entry.
Best spot for Instagram shot: Along the ridge trails, with sweeping canyon views in the background.
A picturesque place.
Bamboo Island, Phi Phi.
Just a short boat ride from the Phi Phi Islands lies one of the most idyllic Instagrammable Thailand destinations… Bamboo Island (Koh Phai).
This tiny, unspoiled paradise is surrounded by powdery white sand and the kind of turquoise water you usually only see on postcards.
So this spot is definitely a contender for most Instagram worthy!
I loved how peaceful it felt compared to the busier beaches around Phi Phi Don. With no hotels or built-up areas, it’s all about pure nature here.
It doesn’t get better in terms of beach vibes.
I enjoyed swimming in the crystal-clear waters, with a little bit of a snorkel above vibrant coral reefs just adding to the surreal situation.
I also enjoyed time relaxing under the shade of the bamboo groves that give the island its name.
For Instagram, it’s all about the contrasts: white sand, bright water, and the lush greenery behind you.
Arriving early by longtail boat means you’ll have the beach almost to yourself—perfect for those dreamy, tropical shots.
Bamboo Island, Phi Phi.
Best time to visit: Morning, before tour boats arrive.
Cost: Included in most Phi Phi boat tours (approx. 400–600 THB / £9–14).
Best spot for Instagram shot: On the north beach, with the turquoise shallows and bamboo groves in the background.
Idyllic.
Bangkok Chinatown (Yaowarat Road).
I was searching for the combination of colour, culture, and street art vibes during my time in the Thai capital, and I found Bangkok’s Chinatown to be the best place…
An awesome Thailand Instagram spot!
Known locally as Yaowarat Road, this bustling district comes alive at night with glowing signs, pop-up street art murals, and some of the best street food in the city.
Through the day you can wander around the maze of alleys, discovering hidden temples, themed cafés, and Cantonese style graffiti that make perfect backdrops for photography.
Artists at work in China Town.
What I loved most was how the street art here is constantly changing.
Many of the walls are repainted by local artists, so each visit feels fresh and gives you the chance to discover new murals you won’t see again.
I actually watched some of the local artists painting a fresh mural, which was awesome!
Bangkok Chinatown.
Best time to visit: Evening, when the neon lights glow and food stalls are in full swing.
Cost: Free to explore, just budget for amazing street food (50–200 THB / £1–£5).
Best spot for Instagram shot: On Yaowarat Road at night, with neon-lit signs stretching above the street in every direction.
Thai themed artwork.
The Viewpoint at Koh Phi Phi Don.
If there’s one shot that defines the Phi Phi Islands… It’s the sweeping panorama from the Viewpoint on Koh Phi Phi Don.
Looking down, you’ll see the island’s two curved bays—Ton Sai and Loh Dalum—connected by a narrow strip of land. It’s one of the most iconic Instagrammable Thailand views, and for good reason.
There are actually three viewpoints along the hike, and I found all three to be amazing in their own ways.
Viewpoint 1 and 2 offer classic shots of the sandbar and turquoise bays, while Viewpoint 3 takes you a little higher, where you’ll also find a quirky little bar serving cold drinks with an unbeatable backdrop.
A quikry spot for sunset.
Sunset is the most popular time, when the sky explodes with colour over the limestone cliffs and sea. It does get busy, but the atmosphere is part of the charm—everyone gathered to watch the sun dip into the horizon together.
It is a daily ritual for backpackers to enjoy the good chilled life, with unbeatable views, and awesome vibes.
Koh Phi Phi Don Viewpoint.
Best time to visit: Sunset for dramatic skies, or early morning for quieter photos.
Cost: Around 30 THB (£0.70) entry.
Best spot for Instagram shot: From Viewpoint 2, where both bays curve perfectly into the frame.
An awesome evening.
Maeklong Railway Market near Bangkok.
One of the quirkiest Thailand experiences has to be the Maeklong Railway Market, located just outside Bangkok.
Similar to Train Street in Vietnam, what looks like a normal street market has a fun and very Instagram-worthy twist—a working train runs straight through it several times a day..
Just before it arrives, a horn sounds and in seconds the whole market transforms.
Vendors pull back their awnings, shift their baskets of produce, and stand calmly as the train squeezes by only inches away.
You have to see it to believe it!
An iconic spot near Bangkok.
It’s fascinating to watch and even better to capture.
The mix of local life, colourful stalls, and the surreal sight of a train running through a bustling market makes this one of the most unique photo spots in Thailand.
It’s the perfect example of how everyday moments in Thailand can turn into some of the most unforgettable—and most Instagrammable—travel experiences.
Maeklong Railway Market.
Best time to visit: Late morning or early afternoon to see a train pass.
Cost: Free to visit.
Best spot for Instagram shot: From inside the market as the train approaches, framing the vendors pulling back their stalls.
A busy morning.
Railay Beach in Krabi.
If paradise had an address, it might just be Railay Beach in Krabi.
Accessible only by boat, this stretch of sand is framed by towering limestone cliffs, turquoise waters, and swaying palms—making it one of the most iconic Thailand destinations.
I found the atmosphere here felt a world away from busier Thai resorts….
And I loved arriving by longtail boat, watching the cliffs rise dramatically out of the sea before as I approached the beautiful beach.
Whether you’re swimming, rock climbing, or just lounging with a coconut in hand, the backdrop is unbeatable.
An unreal spot.
Railay is also magical at golden hour. As the sun sets, the cliffs glow orange and the sky fills with colour—perfect for silhouette shots against the water.
Stay a little longer and you’ll find beachfront bars with fire shows that keep the vibe alive after dark.
Railay Beach, Krabi.
Best time to visit: Sunset for glowing skies and softer crowds.
Cost: Free, though longtail boats from Ao Nang cost around 100–150 THB (£2–3.50) each way.
Best spot for Instagram shot: From the west side of Railay Beach, capturing the cliffs rising above the turquoise water at sunset.
A typical Thai beach setting.
Tambon Pak Nam, Krabi.
While most people know Krabi for Railay Beach or island-hopping tours, one of the most underrated Instagrammable Thailand destinations, and one of my favourite spots is Tambon Pak Nam.
This riverside district offers a more authentic, local side of Krabi town, with colourful longtail boats, bustling markets, and a backdrop of dramatic limestone cliffs rising from the water.
It always feels like Jurassic Park as I explore.
Felt like Jurassic Park.
As I wandered along the riverfront, it felt like authentic Thailand, as I spotted fishing boats coming in with the day’s catch, and street vendors selling fresh fruit and snacks.
The stunning natural scenery makes the whole area incredibly photogenic!
The highlight is the Krabi River viewpoint, where two giant karsts—known as the “Khao Khanap Nam Mountains”—stand like sentinels guarding the town.
A visit at sunset was perfect for me to use the magical lighting and fewer crowds for some awesome Instagram shots.
Tambon Pak Nam, Krabi.
Best time to visit: Sunset for the best golden light and peaceful river views.
Cost: Free to explore.
Best spot for Instagram shot: The Krabi River viewpoint, framing the longtail boats against the Khao Khanap Nam limestone peaks.
Beautiful nature.
Dream Space Gallery in Chiang Mai.
In terms of something a little different from the usual temples and night markets, I found the Dream Space Gallery in Chiang Mai to be one of the most unique Instagrammable Thailand spots…
Especially if like I do, you love street art!
This quirky, artistic space was designed to inspire creativity, with brightly coloured murals, whimsical sculptures, and interactive installations that inspire…
There is just something in the air in Chiang Mai - It feels like such a creative city.
A common character Thailand.
As I explored I found oversized art pieces, bold colours, and a unique, and fun contrast between surreal modern artwork and Chiang Mai’s traditional surroundings.
The gallery has become a favourite for travellers looking for fun, vibrant backdrops that stand out on their feed.
Visit in the morning or early afternoon for good natural light and fewer people, so you can take your time exploring each corner.
Once I had paid and entered, I was free to wander anywhere in the maze-like art centre.
Dream Space Gallery, Chiang Mai.
Best time to visit: Morning or early afternoon for good light and fewer crowds.
Cost: Around 150 THB (£3.50) entry.
Best spot for Instagram shot: Posing in front of the bold geometric murals or among the colourful sculptures for a surreal, creative vibe.
There are some awesome murals.
Rong Suea Ten Temple in Chiang Rai.
If you’re looking for a temple that feels truly unique, Rong Suea Ten—better known as the Blue Temple—is another must-see in Chiang Rai.
Unlike the traditional gold tones you see across Thailand, this temple is painted in striking shades of blue, shimmering silver and gold details, making it one of the most visually stunning Instagrammable Thailand temples.
It just looks amazing doesn’t it!
An amazing place.
The intricate details, and ornate features make the Blue Temple a photographer’s dream.
Inside, a giant white Buddha statue glows against the deep blue walls, surrounded by swirling murals that feel almost surreal.
Every corner here is made for Instagram, from the colourful naga (serpent) sculptures outside to the sparkling details up close.
It’s not as crowded as Wat Rong Khun, which means you can take your time to capture the artistry without the rush.
Rong Suea Ten Temple, Chiang Rai.
Best time to visit: Early morning for fewer crowds and soft light.
Cost: Free to enter, donations welcome.
Best spot for Instagram shot: Inside, with the white Buddha framed against the vivid blue walls and murals.
The blue is striking.
Maya Bay, Phi Phi.
Made world-famous by ‘The Beach’ movie, Maya Bay on Phi Phi Leh is one of those places that truly lives up to the hype.
Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and turquoise water, it feels like stepping into a movie set—and it’s hands down, the most iconic Instagrammable Thailand destination.
You haven’t daydreamed of a Thailand trip without seeing this picture-perfect spot.
An epic spot.
The beach was closed for several years to allow the environment to recover, and it’s now carefully protected with limited visitor numbers.
That only makes the experience more special. Walking barefoot on the powdery white sand, with the cliffs rising dramatically around you, felt completely surreal…
My camera roll was filled that afternoon!
Arrive early by boat to avoid the crowds and catch the soft morning light.
Even then, you’ll want to put your camera down at least once to just soak in the atmosphere. Maya Bay is easily one of Thailand’s most breathtaking spots.
Maya Bay, Phi Phi.
Best time to visit: Morning, before tour groups arrive.
Cost: Included in Phi Phi tours (approx. 400 THB / £9).
Best spot for Instagram shot: From the centre of the bay, capturing the sand, turquoise water, and limestone cliffs towering above.
What an Instagram shot.
Chiang Mai Flower Festival.
If you’re visiting northern Thailand in February, you’re in luck—because that’s when Chiang Mai bursts into colour with its annual Flower Festival.
This three-day celebration is one of the most unique picturesque Thailand events, transforming the city into a living garden.
I loved wandering along the parade route, where floats covered in orchids, chrysanthemums, and roses rolled past in a dazzling display.
Locals dress in traditional costumes, dancers perform, and the whole city feels like it’s celebrating the arrival of spring. It’s vibrant, cultural, and totally photogenic.
A colourful fews days in Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai is one of the best destinations in Thailand, and this colourful festival just makes it even more fun.
The best photos are from the parade on Saturday morning, when the floats are fresh and the streets are packed with energy. But don’t miss the Nong Buak Hard Park displays, where intricate floral sculptures stay up all weekend.
It made for a very interesting route when I was getting my daily steps in.
Chiang Mai Flower Festival.
Best time to visit: The first weekend of February each year.
Cost: Free to enjoy.
Best spot for Instagram shot: Along the parade route, capturing the flower-covered floats and dancers in colourful costumes.
There are many fun floats in the parade.
Wat Arun (Bangkok).
Perched on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun—the Temple of Dawn—is one of the most iconic photo spots in Thailand.
Its central spire (prang) towers over the river, decorated with colourful porcelain tiles that sparkle in the sunlight.
The picturesque temples are a big factor in Bangkok being one of the most popular cities in Asia, but Wat Arun stands out as the most famous.
I found exploring Wat Arun in the morning to be an awesome time to capture some Instagram shots, when the soft light bounces off the temple and the river is still calm.
An iconic temple in Bangkok.
But sunset is equally stunning, as watching the temple glow golden from across the water is one of those Bangkok moments I will never forget.
I found the detail here to be incredible.
Up close, every mosaic tells a story, while from afar the silhouette of the temple against the sky makes a perfect photo backdrop. Whether you capture it from a ferry, a riverside café, or the temple grounds themselves, Wat Arun is the cultural side of Thailand that so many tourists love.
Wat Arun, Bangkok.
Best time to visit: Early morning for soft light, or sunset for glowing views across the river.
Cost: Entry around 100 THB (£2.30).
Best spot for Instagram shot: From the opposite riverbank at sunset, with Wat Arun glowing across the Chao Phraya.
It’s just as impressive in the daylight.
Similan Islands (Phang Nga Province).
If you’re looking for untouched paradise, the Similan Islands in Phang Nga Province are hard to beat.
This group of 11 islands is famous for its crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches, and dramatic granite boulders that make it a spectacular setting.
I loved how wild and natural it felt compared to some of the busier tourist beaches.
The combination of colours here are unreal, with turquoise water, whites sand, and abundance of greenery.
It’s also one of the best places in Thailand for snorkelling and diving, with coral reefs teeming with marine life.
For photos, the highlight has to be the view from Sail Rock on Koh Similan, where you can capture the whole island framed by huge boulders and sweeping ocean views.
Similan Islands, Phang Nga.
Best time to visit: November–April (the islands close for conservation from May–October).
Cost: Entry is included with national park tours (approx. 500 THB / £11).
Best spot for Instagram shot: From Sail Rock viewpoint, overlooking turquoise waters and granite boulders.
Another awesome beach destination.
Which was my favourite Instagrammable place in Thailand?
Photographing Thailand was an absolute dream.
From colourful temples in Chiang Rai to bustling Bangkok streets and the dramatic cliffs of Krabi, every stop on my journey offered its own unique beauty.
But if I had to pick one clear favourite, it would be Maya Bay on Phi Phi Leh Island!
Made world-famous by The Beach movie, this spot had been on my South East Asia travel bucket list for years… And it certainly delivered!
It’s every bit as breathtaking as the photos you see online—and even more magical in person…
Sitting on the famous beach looking out at the picture perfect setting was totally surreal!
Maya Bay is carefully protected today, which makes visiting even more special.
For me, it was the perfect combination of cinematic history, natural beauty, and tropical vibes.
Without doubt, Maya Bay was my favourite Instagrammable Thailand destination.
